VTNZ Safety Certification
VTNZ Vehicle Compliance Certificate
An unregistered imported or deregistered vehicle must be "certified"
before being registered. This involves checking documentation and thoroughly inspecting
to ensure that it meets safety standards recognised in New Zealand. Vehicles with
structural damage, repairs, or modifications must also be checked and certified
by appointed specialists.
All vehicles certified for registration will require a VIN - "Vehicle Identification
Number". This is a unique number used as the key identifier for
the vehicle in all Motor Registration records.
A vehicle which has been through the VTNZ Vehicle Compliance Certification process
receives a completely thorough 150+ point safety check to ensure full compliance
with the safety requirements of the Land Transport Rule (Vehicle Standards Compliance)
2002.
The checking process covers a full examination of the following vehicle systems
for your safety and peace of mind:
- Seatbelts
- Lighting
- Exhaust System
- Emission Test
- Braking System
- Glazing
- Steering and Suspension
- Tyres
- Structure
